O'Neill is the clinical director of Menninger's Outpatient Services' location in Bellaire, Texas. His previous roles include director of Addictions Services and program director for the Professionals Program.


Webinar description

This webinar will focus on developing awareness of suicidal risk factors and warning signs in a substance-using population. Participants will develop insight into the correlation between substance use and suicide, explore ethical issues, devise risk assessments and create appropriate interventions. Participants will be introduced to assessment techniques that will help them develop an understanding of the client’s state of mind. Most importantly, participants will engage in an exploration of how they approach the critical conversation of well-being and safety. 

Webinar objectives 

Participants will be able to: 

  • Identify risk and protective factors for suicide that are either specific to or more prevalent for substance users.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of ethical assessment and treatment of substance users.
  • Demonstrate how evidence-based strategies can be used to more effectively assess risk and manage suicidal behavior in a clinical setting.
