Menninger Named a National Best Hospital by U.S. News & World Report for 27th Consecutive Year

Thursday, August 4, 2016
For the 27th consecutive year, The Menninger Clinic has been named a national Best Hospital in Psychiatry by U.S. News & World Report. Menninger repeats as the number five-ranked hospital in psychiatry for 2016-17.
The psychiatric hospital rankings are compiled from the past three years of reputational scores determined by physicians nationwide who are board-certified in psychiatry. These physicians name the hospitals that they consider best for patients with serious or difficult conditions regardless of expense or location. Menninger has ranked 5th among all psychiatric hospitals nationally for the past four years and among the top nine hospitals for all 27 years that U.S. News & World Report has ranked hospitals to help consumers and healthcare professionals find the best care.
“We owe this exceptional record to our talented Team Menninger members, from clinicians to support staff, who provide expertise and an optimal healing environment, as well as to families and referring professionals who give us the opportunity to help these patients get healthy and achieve a better life,” said C. Edward Coffey, MD, president and CEO of The Menninger Clinic.
“Menninger is a growing mental health care system that serves residents of Houston and all of Texas as well as nearly all 50 states and countries outside the U.S.,” explained Coffey. “In addition to this affirmation from psychiatrists nationwide, our published treatment outcomes demonstrate that our patients regain normal functioning during treatment and they are equipped to sustain that health and well-being a year later.”
A Texas Medical Center institution, Menninger offers inpatient stabilization and intensive, individualized treatment for adolescents, young adults, professionals and adults who have not made the desired gains in other levels of treatment. Menninger services also include comprehensive outpatient assessments, outpatient therapy, community integration services that help adults translate treatment into real-time, real-life activities, a rehabilitative clubhouse and addiction services.
Inpatients at Menninger typically have had two or more prior hospitalizations elsewhere and at least four courses of outpatient care with different clinicians. While complex cases are Menninger’s specialty, it also focuses on early intervention; individual, family and couples therapy; psychological testing; autism screening; medication management and other services that meet the needs of those seeking help adjusting to and coping with life’s hurdles.
