POT has generated a lot of fans, particularly in the United Kingdom.
The BMA’s review of the book stated, in part: “This is the sort of book that gives the reader the pleasure of sharing the discipline of helping those who need therapy. It affirms our knowledge and stretches us to consider the field of therapy through fresh eyes. … The book is well-written, accessible and always interesting. … The book is a great introduction (and ongoing manual) to attachment relationships and mentalising.”
Published in 2012 by American Psychiatric Publishing, Dr. Allen’s book was among a handful of nominated books that were written by U.S. authors.
Dr. Allen attended the September 17 awards event at the British Medical Association House in London. “The ceremony was very inspiring, with great encouragement to authors and publishers for contributions to clinical medicine in the U.K. … I believe Peter Fonagy’s contribution (he wrote the forward) played a major role in the book’s commendation and perceived relevance to the work in the UK,” he said.
