The Menninger Clinic selects top mental health advocates and professionals for 2009 Board of Directors
HOUSTON, TX(October 30, 2008)
The Menninger Clinic, an international, non-profit specialty psychiatric hospital in Houston, announced today its 2009 Board of Directors. Chosen for their role in professional and community involvement, the directors represent business and philanthropic leaders from across the United States.
“We are thrilled that each of our new directors has chosen to lend their time, talents and knowledge to supporting The Menninger Clinic,” said Ian Aitken, president and CEO of The Menninger Clinic. “These individuals were nominated to serve based on their passion to increase awareness of mental health issues in America as well as for their professional aptitude and leadership skills. We look forward to their counsel and working together toward expanding the Menninger mission at the Menninger Mental Health Epicenter.”
The Menninger Clinic Board of Directors is responsible for the governance and leadership of The Menninger Clinic. In order to carry out its mission, board directors will work together in committees to ensure the success of Menninger’s strategic plan, collaborative partnerships and patient focused treatment, research and education.
Members of the 2009 Menninger Clinic Board of Directors are:
John McKelvey of Leawood, Kansas, is the former president and CEO of The Menninger Foundation and president emeritus of Midwest Research Institute. Mr. McKelvey will serve as chair of the board of directors.
Robert C. Wilson III, of Houston is the president of Wilson Family Investments. Mr. Wilson will serve as chair of The Menninger Clinic Foundation board and serve on The Menninger Clinic board’s nominating committee.
Philip J. Burguières of Houston is vice chairman of the Houston Texans. Mr. Burguières will serve as vice chair of the board and chair the organizational initiatives committee.
James T. Hackett of Houston is the chairman, president and CEO of Anadarko Petroleum Corporation. Mr. Hackett will serve as vice chair of the board and chair the finance committee.
Norman Schultz of San Francisco, California, is the president of the Schultz Foundation. Mr. Schulz will serve as vice chair of the board and chair the nominating committee.
Alberta B. Blecke of Miami, Florida, is a child advocate and project consultant. Ms. Blecke is new to the board and will serve on the organizational initiatives committee.
Emile Harper of Birmingham, Alabama, is a nationally recognized speaker on borderline personality disorder and a patient advocate for those suffering from mental illnesses. Ms. Harper is new to the board and will serve on the nominating committee.
Wayne Holtzman, PhD, of Austin, Texas, is the Hogg Professor Emeritus in Psychology and Education at The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Holtzman will serve on the nominating committee.
Harvey Kurzweil, New York, New York, is a senior partner at Dewey & LeBoeuf, LLP. Mr. Kurzweil will serve on the nominating committee.
Richard Munich, MD, of New York, New York, is a clinical professor of psychiatry at Weill-Cornell Medical College and the training and supervising analyst for the Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is past medical director and chief of staff for Menninger. Dr. Munich will serve on the organizational initiatives committee.
John M. O’Quinn of Houston is the founder and lead litigator for The O’Quinn Law Firm. Mr. O’Quinn will serve on the organizational initiatives committee.
William J. Resnick, MD, MBA, of Los Angeles, California, is a community psychiatrist and on staff at Roll International. Dr. Resnick is new to the board and will serve on the organizational initiatives committee.
Patricia Starck, DSN, RN, FAAN, of Houston is the dean of the University of Texas Health Science Center Houston School of Nursing and the John P. McGovern, M.D., Distinguished Professor. Dean Starck is new to the board and will serve on the organizational initiatives committee.
