Adolescent Treatment Program

Who we treat
This program serves adolescents, age 12 to 17, who are experiencing family, school and social difficulties due to moderate to severe:

• Behavior issues (such as school difficulties, oppositional/defiant behavior, poor impulse control and self-injury),
• Psychiatric disorders (such as major mood disorders, psychotic problems, developing personality disorders and anxiety disorder),
• Substance abuse
• More than one diagnosis such as chemical dependency accompanied by depression

The Adolescent Program treatment team specializes in complex cases. Adolescents in the program often have been hospitalized before or are not making the desired progress in other treatment settings. However, The Menninger Clinic may be the first step in an adolescent's treatment as family members seek treatment options at the initial signs of difficulty.

The patient's length of stay is flexible based on the patient's unique situation and the treatment plan, agreed upon by the patient, family and Menninger treatment team. The average length of stay is three to five weeks. Patients must be capable of actively participating in treatment.
