Compass Young Adult Program

Treatment philosophy
Compass is organized around a team approach in which patients are considered full participants in their treatment team. A rehabilitation model is followed. Allowing patients to make choices and use their strengths to help them manage their illness is a basic premise of treatment.

Each patient works with their primary clinician, primary nurse and psychiatrist, as well as their rehabilitation specialist, and if needed, an addictions counselor, to develop a master treatment plan and goals of treatment. The use of medication, if needed, is discussed in detail since patients need to make the ultimate decision about what they put in their body.

Learning how to use leisure time is a primary goal in treatment since many people have, because of their illness, forgotten how to have fun. Therefore, unstructured and weekend time is incorporated into the schedule so that patients can practice having safe and sober fun. Patients are still expected to participate in a full week of work groups.
