Benjamin L. Weinstein, MD

Dr. Weinstein serves as the on-unit neurologist and psychiatrist and leads the interdisciplinary treatment team for the Menninger Comprehensive Psychiatric Assessment and Stabilization service. The unit works with adults who need an alternative to a traditional acute psychiatric unit as well as men and women whose symptoms require a comprehensive assessment or second opinion.
He joined The Menninger Clinic staff in August 2010, following five years as an attending psychiatrist in the Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Unit at Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and a year in private practice and as a consulting psychiatrist at Hickory Psychiatric Center and Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory, North Carolina. While at MUSC, Dr. Weinstein directed residency training for the Combined Psychiatry and Neurology Program and was assistant professor, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
A Washington and Lee University graduate with a bachelor of science degree in neuroscience, he earned his medical degree at MUSC. Dr. Weinstein also completed the psychiatry and neurology residency programs at MUSC.
He has been a co-investigator on clinical research trials, and his papers on assessment of clinical outcomes and other topics have been published in peer-reviewed journals. In 2008, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of South Carolina honored Dr. Weinstein its Physician of the Year.
