Compass Program for Young Adults

For Referring Clinicians

The Menninger Clinic's Compass Program for Young Adults serves patients, ages 18 to 30, who are having problems managing the transition from adolescence to adulthood often due to a psychiatric disorder or a combination of psychiatric and addictive disorders, school demands and stress. This treatment program lasts approximately six weeks to eight weeks.
The referring or previously treating clinician provides important information about his or her experiences with the patient. We work to form a collegial relationship with such clinicians to help ensure that the patient is successful in treatment at Menninger as well as future programs.
Soon after the patient is admitted, the patient’s team leader will communicate with the referring professional. Together, they will:
  • Discuss the patient’s treatment history to reach an accurate, concise picture of specific needs and previous and current issues
  • Begin to develop the best plan for treatment to help the patient transition back to the family and community after treatment at Menninger
During treatment, the Compass treatment team communicates with the referring professional and those who will be seeing the patient in aftercare.
