Our Eating Disorders (ED) Services are designed to support Menninger patients who have a co-existing eating disorder or whose eating-disorder behaviors have resurfaced during inpatient treatment for major depression, anxiety or other mental illness.
The services are modeled after a partial hospitalization program and are not intended to be a substitute for a specialty inpatient eating disorder program.
The ED Services’ objectives are to:
Provide a structure that promotes patient safety
Offer effective, evidence-based treatment and interventions
Develop treatment plans that are appropriate and reasonable
Treatment goals include medical stabilization, weight restoration, nutritional rehabilitation, rehydration, normalized eating and patient self-management.
Services and Schedule
After a patient is admitted to The Clinic, the ED team will assess his or her appropriateness for ED Services. If a patient needs ED Services, the ED team collaborates with the patient’s program treatment team to implement treatment recommendations and develop a comprehensive plan of care.
Eat meals together as a group each day and have 30-minute sit times after each meal with a professional trained in eating disorders
Attend eating disorder-specific educational groups, such as relapse prevention, body image, perfectionism, meal planning, dialectical behavior therapy skills training and nutritional education
Plan meals with a registered dietitian
Our ED Services are designed to supplement the care eating-disorder patients are receiving for other mental illnesses. To ensure that each prospective patient is appropriate for the level of care that we provide, we have developed detailed screening criteria
Kim Morgan, RD
The multidisciplinary ED treatment team is led by Kim Morgan, RD, who serves as the coordinator of ED Services. The team also includes a rehabilitation specialist, registered dietitian, psychiatrist, internist and mental health associates, all of whom are trained to work with patients with eating disorders.
The ED coordinator is responsible for coordinating patients, staff and activities. The ED team manages each patient’s participation in ED activities, reports progress to the patient’s treatment team on a regular basis, provides recommendations for aftercare and assists with discharge planning.
