In the fall of 2010, The Gathering Place, a psychosocial clubhouse, joined the array of Menninger programs. It's located about one mile from The Menninger Clinic.
The Gathering Place provides free psychosocial rehabilitative services to more than 300 clubhouse members with severe and persistent mental illness. The most prevalent diagnoses among our members are schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder and depression.
The program provides support to its adult members through:
-
Vocational skills training
-
Recreational and social activities
Members also maintain a
blog through which they share thoughts, poems and artwork that reflects their experiences living with mental illness.
The Gathering Place focuses on members' strengths rather than limitations in order to enhance life choices and facilitate more independent living.
