Academy Award-nominated actress Mariel Hemingway will have a conversation with nationally recognized Houston researcher and author Brené Brown, PhD, LMSW, at the May 14, 2014, Menninger Signature Annual Luncheon.
Mariel’s courageous journey of introspection and reflection allows her to view her family through new eyes and to strive for peace and acceptance. Brené, who piloted her shame resilience work at The Menninger Clinic, will help share the story of hope and what is possible through treatment, shame reduction, play and living wholeheartedly.
The open dialogue about mental illness and treatment, and the effect on the individual and family, will include excerpts of Hemingway's new documentary, "Running from Crazy." The film focuses on Hemingway's struggles with and recovery from mental illness, as well as the illnesses that devastated her famous family.
The event will be held at the Westin Galleria.
