Some adult patients at Menninger battle treatment-resistant depression and other psychiatric issues that might benefit from therapies that stimulate the brain. We offer such therapies as electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to patients ages 18 and older.
To access this service, outpatient providers - whether a medical or mental health professional - or individuals struggling with mental illness may request an ECT consultation via email or by calling 713-275-5328.

The ECT service is directed by Justin Coffey, MD. Dr. Coffey is the medical director of Menninger's Center for Brain Stimulation and is director of Medical Informatics. He earned both his bachelor's degree and medical degree from the University of Chicago. He completed a residency in psychiatry at the University of Michigan. Dr. Coffey is board certified in psychiatry and in neuropsychiatry.
Dr. Coffey communicates with referring professionals about the patient's psychiatric and medical history and the number of treatments recommended. All treatments take place at Menninger.
